Delays after part of M66 closed near Bury after flooding
A lane was closed on the M66 southbound between Junction 1, the Summerseat Interchange, and Junction 2, the Heap Bridge Interchange after the road was hit by flood water. This came after heavy rainfall earlier on the morning of Sunday November 24 and led to miles of traffic building up. A National Highways North West Statement said: “One lane is closed on the M66 southbound between Junction 1 and Junction 2 near Bury due to flooding.
“We’re working to the clear floodwater. “Delays in excess of 45 minutes, approximately three miles of congestion.” That same day part of the M56 was also closed[1] between Junction 4, the Wythenshawe Interchange and Junction 5, the Airport Interchange, because of fallen cables[2].
