Cyclist, 25, killed in horror crash named as family pay moving tribute

The parents of a cyclist killed in a tragic crash in Salford[1] have paid tribute to a “talented and ambitious” musician who was “so excited” about what the future held. Lewis Simpson was involved in a collision with a lorry on Albion Way[2] on Wednesday (November 20). Emergency services raced to the scene[3], at the roundabout with M602 and A57 Regent Road, at around 1pm but the 25 year-old could not be saved. His family have now paid tribute to their “beloved son” who they said “was so excited about what the future held.”

“Our beloved son Lewis was a talented and ambitious man, who had so many plans and dreams for the future” they said in a statement issued through Greater Manchester Police[4] (GMP). “At home, he was an endlessly cheeky, and loving son who valued family time with his mum, Michaela, dad, Ian and siblings, Evan and Elise, especially around a Sunday lunch. The hundreds of messages we have received, all have the same themes of his funny and loving personality, his dedicated and loyal friendship, and his generosity with his musical talents – supporting many other fellow artists on their journeys.

“Lewis had only graduated this summer with a First-Class Honours degree in Electronic Music Production, and was so excited about what the future held.” “Lewis will leave a massive hole in the lives of many, but he achieved more in his short life than many do in 70 years, and we know he knew every day just how much he was loved and how proud we his family are of him.” An investigation into the crash is continuing.

GMP said afterwards that the HGV stayed at the scene and that the driver was assisting officers with their enquiries, with no arrests made. They also appealed for anyone with footage to come forward. Detective Constable Steven Pennington from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said yesterday (Thursday); “Since the incident we are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this to please come forward if we haven’t already spoken to you.

“We are especially keen to speak to anyone who has CCTV footage, including dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area at the time of the collision and the moments leading up to it.

“This is to ensure we understand fully the circumstances and can bring the answers to the family and friends who are having to come to terms with losing their loved one.”
