Train hits van on level crossing causing delays

A freight train hit a road vehicle at a level crossing in Cambridgeshire on Tuesday afternoon (October 15). Disruption was expected this afternoon with some services cancelled after lines were closed. The crash happened at a level crossing between Peterborough and Ely.

Services affected include CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, and Greater Anglia. A Greater Anglia spokesperson said: “Due to a freight train hitting a road vehicle at a level crossing between Peterborough and Ely all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.
