M5 traffic stopped after serious crash near Bristol

All traffic was stopped on the M5 after a crash near Bristol[1] this morning (Tuesday, October 22). According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, vehicles were stationary on the northbound carriageway. The crash took place between junction 19 for Portishead and junction 18 for the M49[2].

The motorway reopened and traffic returned to normal by 10.35pm. Inrix says: “Traffic easing and all lanes open, recovery work completed and accident cleared on M5 northbound from J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) to J18 M49. Cameras show lane one (of four) has now been closed again.”
