M5 Belfast crash: Four people hospitalised after six vehicle collision on motorway
Four people have been taken to hospital after a six vehicle collision on the M5 in Belfast. At around 1.12pm on Saturday, October 12, it was reported a six vehicle crash had occurred on the M5 between Greencastle and the Rushpark Roundabout[1]. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call and dispatched a number of crews to the scene.
Police[2] were also called to the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
In an update issued just after 3pm, a spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service[5] confirmed four people had been taken to hospital by ambulance. In a statement, they said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 13:12 following reports of a multi vehicle road traffic collision on M5.
“NIAS despatched 1 Rapid Response Paramedic, 6 A&E crews, 1 HART crew, 1 non Emergency crew, 5 ambulance officers and one independent ambulance crew to the incident. “Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, 4 patients were taken by ambulance to Royal Victoria Hospital.” The M5 has now reopened to traffic following the collision.
A spokesperson for Trafficwatch NI said: “North Belfast – the M5 has now been reopened between Greencastle and the Rushpark Roundabout following an earlier multi vehicle road traffic collision.”
