M2 delays and heavy traffic after lorry crash
Heavy traffic and delays are building on the M2 in Medway[1] on Wednesday morning (October 16) following a crash which has reportedly involved a lorry. Two lanes of four remain closed on the coastbound carriageway of the busy motorway between Junction 1 for Strood, and Junction 3 for Chatham[2] and Rochester[3]. Traffic and travel monitoring service Inrix reports around six miles of traffic on approach as a result, stretching back towards the Strood turnoff.
It has also been stated that there is currently debris on the road following the crash, as National Highways estimates normal travel conditions will not resume until 12.15pm this afternoon at the earliest. The latest Inrix update states: "Long delays, two lanes closed and queueing traffic for six miles due to accident, a lorry involved and debris on road on M2 coastbound from J2 A228 Sundridge Hill (Strood / Rochester) to J3 (Chatham / Rochester). Congestion to J1 (Strood)."
It is not yet known if any other vehicles were involved or if any injuries have been reported. KentLive[4] has approached emergency services for further details.
Drivers also face delays on the M20 and have been urged to avoid the area[5] after a separate three vehicle crash this morning.
