M1 crash shuts 2 lanes in Leicestershire

A crash shut the northbound M1 near East Midlands Airport[1] in Leicestershire earlier this evening. The collision caused delays in the area where there are already long-term roadworks causing problems. At first all four northbound lanes were shut near junction 24 and they remained closed for about 20 minutes.

Then two of the four lanes re-opened and the motorway fully opened again shortly after 6pm.

At the height of the disruption, there were six-mile queues back to junction 23 on the M1 northbound and a two-mile queue on the A42 approach to the M1 junction.
