Strictly’s Nick Knowles shares major update on arm injury and his future on BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing’s Nick Knowles[1] has taken to social media with an update after sustaining an arm injury that could put his stint on the BBC dance floor at risk.[2] The DIY SOS presenter, 62, expressed his gratitude on social media earlier this week for the “support and well wishes” he received following an unfortunate incident involving a flat tyre on the way to a family gathering over the weekend. And providing another update on Tuesday (24 September), Nick explained that the show are going to ‘make a decision’ on whether he will be able to dance or not, writing: “So today I have seen Dr’s and Physio’s who have been wonderful. I’ve had scans (I’ll spare you the grim details) and although it’s feeling a bit better today, the issue is, we don’t know if I can actually use my arm to dance.

Nick explained that he has seen doctors and is hoping he will return to the dancefloor

“So tomorrow, I’m going to rehearsals with @lubamushtuk and the physio to see just what my arm can do.

Then the medics will make a call on if they think I can continue dancing. I am still really hopeful that I’ll be able to dance this weekend. So fingers crossed…”

Announcing the news of his injury via a video update at the beginning of the week, Nick took to Instagram while sporting a DIY sling crafted from a blanket. He explained: “Good morning, here’s a little update from me at the start of week two @bbcstrictly rehearsals. As you can see my arm is in a sling and that’s because my car broke down at the side of the motorway.”

He is partnered with professional Luba Mushtuk for the show

He continued, detailing the incident: “I had my little boy in the car, so I wanted to change the tyre as quickly as possible.

In the process of hurrying to get the wheel off, I managed to damage my shoulder and arm a little. I’m not sure how, but it’s been quite painful.” If all goes well, Nick is hoping to glide across the dance floor during the second live show of the current Strictly season, performing an American smooth complete with potential lifts to Blur’s iconic tune Parklife.

Chatting on the BBC’s companion programme Strictly Come Dancing[3] : It Takes Two, he admitted his injury is “painful” but remained “hopeful” about returning to the dance floor this week alongside his pro partner Luba Mushtuk, following their jive to Starship’s We Built This City in the first live show of 2024.
