Man left with horrific injuries after being ‘trapped underneath lorry’ in M6 crash

A pensioner has been left with ‘really significant injuries’ after being left ‘trapped underneath the cab of an articulated lorry’ following a horror crash on the M6. The man in his 80s was involved in a smash with a volvo HGV on the stretch of the motorway next to Forton Services, near Lancaster, at around 4:30pm on Monday afternoon (September 2). Emergency services including police, paramedics and firefighters all rushed to the scene.

Fire crews helped rescue the man before he was taken to hospital. He remains in a serious condition and an appeal for witnesses has now been launched. In a statement to Lancs Live[2], Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service “Two fire engines from Garstang and Fulwood and the Urban Search and Rescue attended the M6 motorway, Lancaster.

One casualty was trapped underneath the cab of an articulated lorry.” “Fire crews used air bags and rams to release the casualty, who was then passed on to the care of ambulance crews. Fire crews remained on scene for two hours and ten minutes.”

Sgt Dan Gunn, from Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: “This incident has left a man with some really significant injuries, and I would appeal to anyone who either saw what happened or who has any dash camera or mobile phone footage to get in touch.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information that could help officers is asked to contact Lancs Police on 101 quoting log 0994 of September 2.
