Man charged after pregnant Lanarkshire nurse dies in lorry crash days after baby shower

A man has been charged after a pregnant Lanarkshire[1] nurse died in a fatal lorry crash on the M8 just days after celebrating her baby shower. Eve Brown, from Bellshill, died when her Kia Sorento collided with a Tesco lorry[2] near junction 1 of the motorway, at Hermiston Gait, on Monday, December 18, 2023. Emergency[3] services responded to the incident but, sadly, the 41-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorway was closed for over nine hours following the tragedy as a full accident investigation took place.

Eve left behind her two young daughters, who were aged three and four at the time. Just two days before the tragedy, she had been pictured at her baby shower, showing off her bump in a sequin dress as she smiled with friends and family.

Police Scotland[6] told the Daily Record[7] this morning, Wednesday September 4, that a 58-year-old man had been arrested and charged with road traffic offences following the incident. He is due to appear at court at a later date. Following Eve’s tragic death, heartfelt tributes were paid by devastated friends as the local community rallied around to support the family.

Emma Reynolds wrote: “Rest in peace Eve. Sending my love & healing to your daughters.” Udoka Chinwe said: “How do we say farewell?

How do we say rest in peace? Your friends and family celebrated your baby shower, only for you to be snatched away from us. Can we get one more hug?

One more dance? You only ever had nice things to say. I love you.”

Somto Christabel Emy-Amaugo said: “She wasn’t just a woman, she was a woman with a large heart. My heart hurts. How do you throw your big, baby-shower party on the 16th and exit on the 18th?

“I will miss your wonderful, opera-singing voice, your praise sessions, your hearty laughter, your larger-than-life attitude and your most beautiful smile.

Thank you for being so kind to us in the short time you passed through our lives. I will remember you Lady Eve.” A local charity, Charity Dashing Hounds Bellshill, organised collections for the donation of presents and clothes for Eve’s two young children.

They said: “Eve is survived by her two young girls. We desperately want to help this family as they come to terms with the devastating and tragic loss of their mum, sister and daughter. “The family would be more than grateful and appreciative of any help in the form of toys, clothes, food or any donations at all.

“I know times are tough, more so at this time of year, but if anyone can help please private message me and I will get back to you to arrange collections or drop offs.” Join Glasgow Live’s WhatsApp community here[8] and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
