MAJOR DISRUPTION BEGINS IN SANDOWN AS NETWORK RAIL SHUTS MAIN ROAD

A section of Sandown’s Avenue Road is to be closed for 8 weeks from today (Monday) as railway bridge works get underway. One of the main roads in the town, Avenue Road, is shut in both directions between the junction with Tamar Close and Perowne Way. During the closure, Network Rail is to undertake essential works on the Island Line, with changes to be made to the electric rail in the local area, as well as works on the existing bridge – above Avenue Road – will see the structure completely removed and renewed.

Pedestrian access underneath the bridge is to be maintained throughout the closure apart from when the bridge structure itself is being lifted from its place.

Between 23:00 on the 27th and 05:00 on 30th September, Morton Road and Perowne Way are to be closed so that a crane can be brought to the work site.

The closure is set to be in place until 31st October.
