M6: Driver left with ‘serious injuries’ after collision near Kendal

The incident was reported at 11.50 am today (Thursday, September 19) and involved a car and a bus on the Cumbrian motorway near Junction 37. Following the incident, the north exit of the junction near Kendal was closed to allow the air ambulance to land and Stagecoach Cumbria said that its Carlisle[1] 563 service would not be running for the rest of the day following an incident on the M6. A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: “The collision between a car and a bus was reported at 11.50 am.

“The driver of the car has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. “The north exit at Junction 37 was closed to allow air ambulance to land. Unclear currently if reopened.”

This comes after reports of a crash in Cumbria that left the M6 blocked in both directions, with traffic said to be queuing.[2]

The M6 was reportedly blocked from Junction 37 near Kendal up to the Roan Edge Quarry turn-off.

Northbound traffic was unable to leave or enter the motorway at Junction 37 due to the heavy queuing.
