Live: M5 rush hour chaos as crash sparks miles of traffic

Commuters face stop-start traffic on the M5 in Somerset after a crash. Two lanes have been closed on the motorway near Burnham-on-Sea this afternoon (Tuesday, September 17). The crash is affecting traffic in the Bristol-bound direction, with delays reported between Puriton and Edithmead.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports: “Stop-start traffic and two lanes closed due to accident on M5 Northbound at J22 ( Burnham-on-sea ). Lanes one and two (of three) are closed.” National Highways added: “Lanes 1 and 2 are CLOSED on the #M5[1] northbound between J23 near #Bridgwater[2] and J22 #BurnhamOnSea[3] due to a multi vehicle collision.

National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene. There are currently delays of 35 mins and approx.
