Live: M5 closed as animals escape onto motorway

A horse escaped onto the M5[1] and forced the closure of the motorway this afternoon, Saturday, September 21. The northbound carriageway was closed for some time and there were several miles of tailbacks north of Gloucestershire[2], according to National Highways. The incident was first reported at 12.28pm between junctions seven and six where there are severe delays.

There were several miles of stationary traffic on the northbound M5. All lanes have reopened but delays remained after the closure for some time. The horse is believed to have been safely removed.

The delays have now eased
