Heavy traffic on M5 after vehicle flips
There was heavy traffic on the M5 for those heading north this morning. There was an accident, understood to involve an overturned vehicle, in Gloucestershire, which caused delays for motorists heading out of Bristol. All traffic was briefly held earlier this morning after the accident on the M5 Northbound between Almondsbury and Falfield.
This was later reduced to a single lane closure. The accident was first reported by traffic-monitoring site Inrix at 10:56am and it says traffic is still building. Google Maps is also reporting very heavy traffic on the motorway.
The Southbound carriageway appears unaffected. Inrix reports: "Queueing traffic and one lane closed due to accident on M5 Northbound from J15 M4 J20 (Almondsbury Interchange) to J14 B4509 (Thornbury / Falfield). Following a brief hold, traffic has now been released, but lane one (of three) remains closed."
It has since been reported that the motorway has fully re-opened and traffic has returned to normal levels. Inrix said: "All lanes open and traffic returned to normal, overturned vehicle removed on M5 Northbound from J15 M4 J20 (Almondsbury Interchange) to J14 B4509 (Thornbury / Falfield). Lane one (of three) was closed."
The Motorway Cameras website said that the accident involved one overturned vehicle.
It added that normal traffic conditions were not expected until at least 12:30pm
