85-year-old woman dies following M6 collision near Kendal

Rita Thomas, of Thornton-Cleveleys in Lancashire, was the driver of a Hyundai involved in a collision with a bus on Thursday, September 19 at Junction 37 on the Cumbrian motorway. Police had earlier said that the driver had been airlifted to hospital with ‘serious injuries’[1], however, have now announced that she died in hospital on Friday, September 20. A passenger in the car was also taken to hospital and remains in a ‘stable but serious condition’.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: “The driver of the bus was uninjured. “Police continue to appeal for anyone with information to contact officers. “You can report online at cumbria.police.uk/reportit – quoting incident 90 of September 19.
