Woman dies and two children seriously injured after lorry crash in South Woodham Ferrers

A woman has died while two children have been left seriously injured after a major crash between a lorry and car in Essex. Police are investigating the fatal crash in South Woodham Ferrers on Tuesday (August 13) and are appealing for witnesses. Officers were called to the A132 Burnham Road, South Woodham Ferrers, shortly before 4pm following the crash.

Emergency services attended and the road was closed in both directions between Rettendon Turnpike and the KFC roundabout whilst work was carried out. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, a woman in her 60s sadly died at the scene. Her passengers, two children, were taken to hospital after they both sustained serious injuries.

A 41-year-old man, the driver of the lorry, has been arrested in connection to the crash and he remains in custody.
