‘Very serious’ crash means A303 closure will last ‘for hours’
A stretch of the A303 in Somerset is set to remain closed for a “number of hours” following a very serious crash[1]. Emergency services were called to the scene between Southfields and South Petherton at around 3.30pm this afternoon, Thursday, August 15. The crash took place heading eastbound and the A303 is now shut in both directions[2] between the A358 and the A356.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area while the road remains closed. National Highways: South West said in a post on X: “#A303 is closed in both directions – btwn #A358 #HortonCross and #A356 #Norton-sub-Hamdon, due to a v serious collision. @ASPolice are leading on this incident Information from scene indicates that this closure will remain in place for a number of hours.” Avon and Somerset Police added on X: “We are at the scene of a collision that happened eastbound on A303 between Southfields and South Petherton at about 3.30pm today (Thursday 15 August).
Motorists are advised to avoid the area due to the road being closed in both directions.”
