Major M25 delays after road closed as lorry blocks carriageway with tailbacks to M11 junction

There are major delays on the M25 this morning in Essex due to a broken down lorry blocking the carriageway. The incident has taken place near junction 25 with the A10 at Enfield and there are queues stretching back to the M11. The lorry broke down earlier this morning (August 28) just before junction 25 on the anti-clockwise carriageway.

The road was fully shut for some time while the lorry was tended to. Now, two lanes of the carriageway are open but there are very long delays due to the amount of traffic that has built up. Vehicles are slow moving all the way back to junction 27 with the M11 in Essex.

The lanes are closed inside the Holmesdale Tunnel, and it is not yet known how long the closure will be in place for. Motorists are being advised to allow much more time for travelling this morning. Pictures from National Highways traffic cameras show heavy traffic leading up to the site of the broken lorry.

It is not believed that anyone has been seriously injured.
