M5 traffic chaos with 50-minute delays and six-mile tailbacks

There are long delays on the M5 due to a serious problem with the road surface[1] this morning, Tuesday, August 27. According to National Highways, there are delays of 50 minutes with six miles of tailbacks on the northbound carriageway. Two lanes of the M5 are closed between junction 19 and junction 18[2] with highways officers in attendance.

Motorists should leave extra time for their journeys on the motorway while the closures remain in place.

National Highways: South West[3] said in a post on X at 11.30am: “Lanes 1 and 2 are CLOSED on the #M5 northbound between J19 and J18 due to a road surface infrastructure defect.
