M5 and M6 diesel spillage live as lanes closed after lorry crash

A warning has been issued to drivers on the M5 and M6 drivers after a diesel spillage from a crashed lorry. It is leading to long delays this evening while the clean up operation is taking place. The truck fuel spillage happened on M5 Northbound link road at the M6 Interchange at junction 8 earlier today.

One of two lanes was closed following the incident and remains closed. Taking to X, National Highways: West Midlands posted today: "Lane 1 (of 2) is closed on the #M5[1] northbound link road to the #M6[2] northbound J8 due to a diesel spillage from a lorry. Resources are on scene clearing the spillage.

Please allow extra journey time as there are approx.

3.5 miles congestion on the #M5[3] northbound on approach." Traffic data monitor Inrix said: "Long delays and lane closed on exit slip road to M6 Northbound due to accident, accident, a lorry involved and fuel spillage on M5 Northbound at the M6 Interchange. Congestion to J2 (Oldbury / Dudley[5] ).

There is also a lane closure on the M6 to assist with this."
