Lorry trailer ripped off after crashing into bridge

The crash happened on Charlton Road at around 3.41pm today, Friday, August 23. Police and firefighters attended the scene, and safely evacuated the driver. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service cleared debris from the road and police subsequently closed it off.

Lorry crashes into bridge in AndoverLorry crashes into bridge in Andover (Image: Contributed) A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Andover firefighters were alerted to an RTC on Charlton Road at 3:41. "One lorry had hit a low bridge, with the driver safely evacuating uninjured.

"HIWFRS cleared debris from the road before handing the incident over to police, who closed the road. "Firefighters left the scene following the stop message at 4pm." A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "A lorry collided with a bridge on Charlton Road at 3.45pm.

No injuries have been reported."

This is not the first time an incident like this has happened on Charlton Road, back in 2019, the roof of a double-decker bus[2] was ripped off under the very same bridge.

While in 2008, the roof of a different double-decker bus was ripped off[3] after hitting a bridge.
