GAC launches production of high-performance electric motor

According to the Chinese manufacturer, the new motor, called ‘Quark Electric Drive 2.0’, has a power density of 13 kW/kg, an efficiency of 98.5 per cent, a speed of up to 30,000 rpm and will soon be installed in models of the Hyptec brand.

The Hyptec brand was previously known as Aion Hyper and is the performance EV subsidiary for GAC, which kicked off production of its electric sportscar ‘Hyper SSR’ just a few weeks ago[1].

GAC’s new performance drive system also uses a special material amorphous soft magnet, which is known as “liquid metal” because it has a permeability of 20-100 times that of an ordinary silicon steel sheet, according to a report by Carnewschina.

The manufacturer claims that in practice, the motor can add up to 50 km of additional range for an electric vehicle without adapting the battery size, or in the case of an EREV, it can increase range by a whopping 150 km.

GAC states that it plans to start installing the Quark Electric Drive 2.0 on Hyptec models “soon”.

Earlier this month, the brand also launched a new generation of smart digital chassis.
