Freeport residents meet police, firefighters at National Night Out

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - Freeport is one of many communities to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday evening.

Residents gathered at Read Park for activities like kickball and a K9 demonstration.

Attendees were also able to get up close to emergency vehicles from the police and fire departments.

Chris Shenberger, Freeport Police Chief, praised the opportunity for community members to meet officers and firefighters. "It's a really good way to have the community come out and interact with police and fire, see our vehicles, see us for more than just being people that wear uniforms for a living, we're also people that they can interact with us and have fun with us."
