A666 motorway closed for hours after welfare concerns

According to North West Motorway Police, the A666 – which is designated as a motorway along part of its route[1] – was closed in both directions in the early hours of this morning around Raikes Lane this morning. The man was brought down from the bridge at around 4.30am, police confirmed, and the motorway was reopened. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “At around 2:30am this morning (Friday 2 August) we were called to reports of concern for welfare of a man on a bridge on the A666 in Bolton. “The A666 was closed for a short period whilst the man was brought down from the bridge to safety.
