Live: M5 lanes closed after crash near Bristol with traffic building

There are traffic delays on the M5 following a crash near Bristol this afternoon (Sunday, July 28). According to National Highways, all traffic has been stopped heading northbound on the Avonmouth Bridge. The crash took place between junction 19 for Portishead and junction 18 for the M49 Interchange.

It was first reported at 12.38pm and traffic is now building on the motorway. National Highways said in a post on X: “Traffic is stopped on the #M5 in #Somerset northbound between J19 #Portishead and J18 #Avonmouth due to a collision involving an overturned vehicle. Emergency services are in attendance.

More information to follow, thank you for your patience.” Inrix says: “Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to accident on M5 Avonmouth Bridge Northbound between J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) and J18 (M49 interchange). Traffic is slow on the opposite side due to onlookers.”
