Live: Lengthy M5 delays as crash halts traffic

A crash caused long delays on the M5 motorway[1] this evening. The collision occurred on the southbound carriageway and caused traffic to be held for around 20 minutes. The wreckage was moved onto the hard shoulder but considerable delays remained between junctions 18 and 20, according to National Highways[2].

The incident happened near junction 20 for Clevedon and congestion stretched all the way back to junction 18 for Portishead. National Highways was reporting 60-minute delays. There was also a broken-down vehicle in the same area which has now been cleared.

Traffic monitoring service[3] Inrix reports: "Queueing traffic due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M5 southbound near J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon). Congestion to before J19 (Portishead). Traffic was held around 4.35pm to 4.55pm."
