A14 partially blocked after lorry crashes into barrier
Two lanes of the A14 Eastbound near Cambridgeshire[1] were closed after a crash in the early hours of Friday (July 5). The incident was reported to have taken place at around 2am. A lorry collided with the central reservation, damaging the barrier and leaving debris on the road.
This had an impact on traffic between Junction 37 in Newmarket[2] and Junction 38 in Kennett. A photo posted to social media showed the extent of damage that was caused. One of the lanes has since reopened, although another remains closed throughout the morning while emergency barrier repairs and clean-up take place.
A spokesperson for Suffolk[5] Police said: “Police were called just before 2:20am to reports of a single vehicle collision on the e/b A14[6] near J37. A lorry had collided with the central reservation. “Highways were called to clear debris.
Ambulance attended but no injuries reported. One lane was closed on both sides of the road. Closures were managed by Highways.”
A Cambridgeshire[7] Police spokesperson added: “We were called at 2.16am to reports of a collision involving a lorry on the A14 at Exning. The collision involved one vehicle but as a result, there was debris on the road. There are no reported injuries.”
National Highways East have said that vehicle recovery is complete, but reported delays of around 30 minutes and congestion of up to four miles on approach. Motorists are being advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Do you want more of the latest Cambridgeshire news as it comes in?
