A1 closure live updates as long delays form after lorry crash

One-hour delays

The National Highways states: “There are lanes closed on the #M1[1] southbound between J30 #Sheffield[2] and J29a #MarkhamVale[3] due to a collision. This is causing about 5 miles of tailbacks, about an hour delay.” Nottinghamshire Police, who are in attendance, have also issued a statement.

At around 4.30pm, they said: “We are currently at the scene of a serious collision between a lorry and a van on the A1. “Emergency services are in attendance following the collision that happened at 3pm this afternoon (29 July). Road closures are in place in both directions north and southbound towards Ranby and are expected to remain in place throughout rush hour.

“We would ask any motorists to please avoid the area and make alternate travel arrangements while we investigate this incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 422 of 29 July 2024.”

The A1 southbound has since reopened, National Highways has confirmed.
