Travel warning issued to UK tourists flying from Manchester Airport
A warning has been issued to all passengers flying from Manchester Airport before the end of August with holidaymakers urged to ‘allow enough time to travel’. UK tourists with flights booked from Manchester have been told about diversions which may affect journeys to and from the airport. Roadworks are taking place on the M56 which could impact passengers travelling by car from Birmingham[1].
Resurfacing works started on Monday, June 10 and are due to be completed by the end of August. To minimise disruption, the work is being carried out on the eastbound carriageway towards Manchester Airport ahead of the summer holidays and will be carried out at night and during the early morning hours when traffic levels are lower. Jet2[3] shared advice to travellers arriving at Manchester Airport by road before September.
The airline said: “We have been made aware of road works between Junction 5 and 6 of the M56 beginning Monday, June 10 expecting to be completed by the end of August 2024. There will be closures of the M56, please refer to National Highways for specific dates and times of closures throughout this time frame. Diversions will be clearly signposted throughout this time.
Please allow enough to time to travel to Manchester Airport as all Jet2.com flights are due to operate as scheduled.” The motorway will be closed overnight for safety reasons. The dates and locations of the closures below will be from 9pm to 5am, extended from 9pm to 7am on Saturdays.
