National Express Faster Between London & Stansted

National Express has announced faster journey times to and from London, with customers able to reach London Stansted Airport in as little as 45 minutes. From Friday 12th July 2024, the UK’s largest scheduled coach operator is introducing three new stops on its A8 service, calling at Tottenham Hale, Farringdon and Barbican, and Kings Cross St Pancras. The newly enhanced 45 minute service to and from Tottenham Hale will provide customers with faster, reliable transport choices, at great value prices.

National Express is also boosting other airport services between the capital city and London Stansted Airport, providing even more frequent coach journeys for customers looking to plan their summer getaways.  These changes will see the leading coach operator increasing journeys on services between the airport and London by nearly 25% – to almost 200 round trips per day. The significantly enhanced services provide customers with more journeys to and from Waterloo and Southwark on an enhanced A7 service.

From 12th July both stops will be served twice as often, with services increased to every 30 minutes from every hour.  Ahead of the summer holidays, savvy travellers can book a guaranteed seat now and take advantage of great value fares available from GBP7. John Boughton, Commercial Director for National Express UK and Ireland, said:

“In anticipation of a busy summer period, we are thrilled to be providing even faster, better connectivity between London and Stansted Airport this year, with our coaches now as frequent and virtually as fast as rail services – but at a much lower price. “National Express plays a significant role in supporting London Stansted Airport’s phenomenal growth and their aim of being the leading airport with the highest public transport mode share, providing Stansted flyers with quick, reliable and frequent coach services to and from the capital. “More and more people are choosing to travel with National Express as a reliable, affordable and sustainable way to get around, and we’re responding by investing in new and improved services while delivering a brilliant customer experience to give savvy customers a relaxing, comfortable journey for their summer getaways.”

Steve Mills, London Stansted Airport’s Head of Landside Operations, said: “London Stansted welcomes the excellent news that National Express is to increase journeys on key coach routes between London and the airport. This increase will improve the choice of cost effective and sustainable travel options for both passengers and airport staff alike, especially with the introduction of stops at Tottenham Hale which is an important interchange to the Victoria Line, and also one of our key recruitment areas in North London.

“Nearly 50% of our passengers already choose sustainable modes of transport when travelling to and from the airport, and this very welcome boost in coach frequency by National Express will further help cement London Stansted’s leading position as the UK’s best performing airport for public transport use by passengers.” From Friday 12th July 2024 the following enhanced services will be available:

  • A6 increased from 26 to 45 journeys a day between Marble Arch, Paddington, Baker Street, St Johns Wood, Finchley Road, Golders Green and London Stansted Airport
  • A7 increased from 20 to 49 journeys a day between London Victoria Coach Station, Victoria Rail Station, Waterloo, Southwark, Whitechapel, Mile End, Bow and London Stansted Airport
  • A8 sees Kings Cross St Pancras, Farringdon and Barbican, and Tottenham stops added to the journey, also serving Liverpool Street and Shoreditch
  • A9 increased from 40 to 50 journeys a day – dedicated service direct between London Stratford and London Stansted Airport

This latest investment in providing reliable, affordable and sustainable coach travel between Stansted Airport and the capital follows a 25% increase in customers turning to National Express last year. Over 19 million customers travelled on its coach network during 2023, up from 15 million in 2022.

London Stansted Airport recently announced its busiest April ever, with record numbers passing through the airport during April 2024. And in the 12 months leading up to the end of April 2024 the major airport saw a 10.8% increase in passenger numbers compared with the previous 12 month period up to April 2023. Customers can expect a safe and comfortable experience on board, with leather reclining seats, free Wi-Fi, USB power sockets and a generous luggage allowance of up to 20kg.
