Man who died in Forest crash involving stolen car is named
A Bransgore man has been named as the victim of a Forest road crash involving a stolen car. George Hughes (51), of Meyrick Close, died on the A326 – at the junction with Monkton Lane – in the early hours of 13th June in a collision between a lorry and a silver Peugeot 107. Police later confirmed the car, which had cloned plates, had been stolen from Fordingbridge car park Round Hill on 23rd December last year.
An inquest was opened into the death of Mr Hughes at Winchester Coroners’ Court yesterday (Thursday), where the interim cause of death was stated as “multiple injuries”. The inquest has been adjourned until 2nd July next year, a coroners’ court spokesperson said. Hampshire officers said a second vehicle may have been in the area at the time of the crash – with the occupants potential witnesses – but left before emergency services attended.
A police spokesperson said: “If anyone has information regarding ether of these vehicles please call 101 quoting reference number 44240247966.”
