M5 live as full motorway blocked in police incident

Traffic was blocked in both directions on the M5 motorway tonight due to a police led incident. The motorway was closed on both the southbound and northbound carriageway between J6 (Worcester) and J7 (Whittington). Police have tonight said that, following the safe resolution of an earlier incident, the M5 has now fully re-opened in both directions between J6 and J7 near Worcester.

Police and emergency services have also issued their thanks to motorists for their patience during the lengthy closure this evening. Drivers had been advised to find alternative routes. West Mercia Police tweeted about the incident earlier saying: "Please be advised are currently at scene of incident #M5 northbound and southbound between J6 and J7 near #Warndon #Worcester.

Please seek alternative routes, avoiding this section of the Motorway."

The incident was reported just before 9.30pm.
