Part of the tractor unit is submerged in the canal below, but nobody was injured. The road between Burbage and Marlborough is likely to remain closed for the foreseeable future for vehicle recovery work and bridge repairs.
The canal is also closed to boats. The train line running alongside the scene is open. Wiltshire Police has warned motorists to avoid the area.
A spokesperson said: “Drivers please be aware that the A346 north of Burbage is currently closed after a lorry left the carriageway and entered the canal in the early hours of this morning. “There are not thought to be any injuries but a lengthy recovery operation is now underway. Please find alternate routes.”
In a statement, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The A346 is closed due to an incident at Burbage in Wiltshire. “The road is closed between Marlborough and Burbage and will be for a prolonged period of time so please find an alternative route.” Click here to join our WhatsApp Channel and get breaking news sent directly to your mobile – don’t forget to turn on notifications by clicking the bell icon.[2]
