Huge delays on M6 after suspected drug driver arrested

Long delays were reported on the M6 after a man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. Emergency services were called to the motorway, northbound from J23 for Haydock[1] to J24 for Ashton-in-Makerfield. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said two of three lanes were closed on the motorway following a road traffic accident.

Delays of 55 minutes were reported on the approach to the M6. Cheshire Police confirmed to the ECHO a man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “This is a one-vehicle incident following a medical emergency.

Two of the three lanes are closed, and there are 55-minute delays on approach. “Emergency services are at the scene. It is hoped that the lanes will reopen soon.”
