A2 Gravesend Cobham fatal crash: Man fighting for life
The incident involving a lorry and a van happened on the coastbound carriageway just before 4.15pm on May 31. Two lorries were parked on the hard shoulder when for unknown reasons a white Mercedes Sprinter van crashed with one of the lorries. The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead[1] at the scene shortly after.
His next of kin have been informed. The passenger, a man, was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a serious condition. The driver of the lorry received minor injuries.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “Witnesses are sought following a fatal collision[2] on the A2 at Cobham. “Kent Police was called at 4.14pm on Friday 31 May 2024 to the coastbound carriageway following a collision involving a lorry and a van. “Two lorries were parked on the hard shoulder, when for unknown reasons a white Mercedes Sprinter van collided with one of the lorries.
The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. “The passenger, a 20-year-old man received serious injuries and was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance where he remains in a serious condition.
“The driver of the lorry received minor injuries.
“Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles beforehand to call the SCIU witness appeal line on 01622 798538[3], or email [email protected] quoting EX/HG/058/24.
