‘You were our heart’: touching tributes to man killed in M58 crash

Floral tributes have been laid for a man killed in a crash on the M58. The man died after the collision involving two cars and two lorries on the M58[1] on Friday last week. Emergency services closed the motorway in both directions between junction 3 near Rainford and junction 4 for Skelmersdale[2] at around 12.53pm following the tragic incident.

Footage, which the ECHO[3] chose not to share, showed one of the lorries go up in flames following the crash. It was later confirmed the driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene. Floral tributes have appeared at the scene for the man, believed to be in his 40s, with the nickname 'Beanie.'

A tribute laid on the motorway bridge above the scene of the crash read: "To my Beanie, I hope you knew how much we loved you. I can't begin to describe how we are feeling. I just love you, you were our heart, love always your Bean, duds and Judge xxx"

Pictures of a man with two young children have been left at the scene. A tribute from the family is expected to be released by Lancashire Police in the coming days.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to contact them. Sgt Matt Davidson, lead investigation officer with the serious collision investigation unit, said at the time: "First and foremost, my thoughts are with the driver's family and loved ones at this distressing time.

"This was a difficult and challenging scene for the emergency services who attended, and the carriageway was closed for a substantial time while we investigated the collision and repairs were made to the road.

"I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from either side of the motorway between 12:40pm and 1pm to please contact police on 101, or email [email protected][6] quoting log 0620 of 17th May 2024."
