Major rescue unit brought in after lorry and car crash

A major rescue unit was brought in following a crash in Cheshire. Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to Overdale Lane in Oakmere at around 7.40am today, Wednesday, May 22. It followed a report of a crash between a lorry and car.

Cheshire Police said the driver of the car suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed along with engines from Northwich and Winsford, the major rescue unit also attended the scene, reports Cheshire Live[1].

A spokesperson said: “Fire, police, and ambulance services were in attendance at a two-vehicle road traffic collision in Tarporley.

The A49 was closed in both directions while the incident was dealt with. “Firefighters released one casualty from the vehicle into the care of ambulance personnel. Fire crews left the incident with the police.”

The driver of the HGV was uninjured, police said.

The A49 is currently closed in both directions between the A556 at Sandiway, and the A54 in Oakmere and drivers are being told to avoid the area.
