Live: M5 crash leaves holiday traffic queuing through Bristol

Motorists are queuing on the M5 through North Somerset and Bristol[1] after a crash was reported on the motorway. One lane has been closed southbound between Portishead and Clevedon, with delays extending through Bristol. According to National Highways, there is very heavy congestion on the motorway and traffic is queuing in patches between junctions 16 and 22.

Problems are being made worse by the Friday holiday getaway traffic. Traffic monitor Inrix reports: “One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident and holiday traffic on M5 Southbound from J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) to J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way ( Clevedon ). Congestion to J18A (M49 interchange).

Traffic in patches.”
