Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s drivers could notice £20 extra in bank account

Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's can cut their petrol bill at the pump by GBP20 - by taking action before visiting their local forecourt. Petrol and diesel drivers who buy supermarket fuel at Morrisons[1] as well as Sainsbury's[2], Tesco[3] and Asda[4], have been told they can slash their petrol costs. Drivers can find the cheapest fuel station nearby - and save up to GBP20.Motorists can quickly find where the cheapest petrol and diesel costs are in seconds using a simple tool after new data was published thanks to the Competitions and Markets Authority (CMA).

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Asda are signed up alongside fuel giants Shell, BP and Esso. The CMA watchdog list features nearly 4,000 petrol stations and garages and means motorists could save by as much as GBP20 by choosing where to visit carefully.

Luke Bosdet, the AA's spokesperson on pump prices, said: "Sadly, it has taken more than 15 years for a government and competition watchdog to recognise this and do something about it.

However, action that is better late than never is greatly appreciated by motorists across the UK." Bosdet said a fuel finder scheme would be a "huge leap forward" to ensure fair pricing. He added: "A road fuel regulator will also be a big benefit but will take time to set up.

Drivers can ill afford to wait any longer for effective pump-price competition, given that the summer getaway is about to start and motorists must run the gauntlet of overpriced motorway fuel." The latest supermarket prices show a 154.2p average at Asda with the lowest 147p, and highest 183p. The 36p difference is the biggest discrepancy between any of the main supermarket groces.

Morrisons has a 154.5p average and lowest of 149p and highest of 158p, while Tesco has a 154p average and lowest and highest of 148p and 155p respectively.

Sainsbury's has an average of 152p currently and a lowest of 145p and highest of 159p -a 14p difference.
