And the clip, taken from Halliday’s dashboard camera, revealed how he failed to slow down before colliding with a line of vehicles waiting in a traffic jam.
Footage shows the lorry smashing into the learner driver car, causing two other vehicles to be rammed to the side.
Halliday was arrested following the crash and charged with causing serious injury by careless driving.
He indicated an initial guilty plea to the offence at magistrates’ court on March 12.
Yesterday, he was sentenced to 26-weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
Halliday was also told to pay GBP274 in court costs and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
He will further be required to take a retest before being allowed back on the roads.
Sharing the video of the crash, a spokesperson from Merseyside Roads Policing Unit said: ‘This dash cam footage shows a serious injury RTC from December last year.
‘The driver of this HGV didn’t notice stationary traffic and collided into it.
‘Driver has been sentenced at court and handed a suspended prison sentence, disqualification and must retake test.’
