Police footage shows officers dramatically stopping van with drug courier carrying £6,000 worth of cocaine

POLICE footage shows officers pulling off a dramatic stop on a van carrying GBP6,000 worth of cocaine and swiftly arresting a suspected drug courier. Kenny Madgwick was jailed for four years last Friday on drug offences after he was stopped on Norwich Southern Bypass in Norfolk[1] last November. The footage of the arrest was shared yesterday and shows the officer’s pulling over Madgwick, 33, at high speed as he carried more than 60g of the class A drug[2].

Dashcam footage from one of the police vehicles involved in the stop shows three police cars boxing the van in at high speed and pulling it over.

The drug courier was boxed in and arrested.

One of the police vehicles pulls in front of the van whilst another gets alongside it, all of them travelling nearly 60 mph along a motorway road. Madgwick is forced to slam the brakes and slow down rapidly to avoid the police car now in front of him as the third car, filming the footage on a dashcam[3], approaches from behind. The three police vehicles completely box the van in on the side of the motorway, leaving Madgwick and his cocaine with nowhere to run.

Jumping into action an officer can be seen leaping from the passenger side of one of the cars and rushing towards the van’s driver’s side door. Madgwick appears to think about fleeing the officers on foot as the driver’s side door of the van swings open just as a second officer approaches from behind. The policemen are quickly on top of Madgwick however, giving him nowhere to run and leaving him to explain the pile of cocaine[4] in his possession to the two officers now standing at his door.

Madgwick exits the vehicle, giving himself up voluntarily to the officers as the video of the dramatic arrest ends. Madgwick has since been charged and jailed for being concerned in the supply of a controlled class A drug and possession with intent to supply a controlled class A drug. He was charged on November 21 last year and plead guilty, before being sentenced to four years in prison at Aylesbury Crown Court[5].

Investigating officer, PC Levi Fensom, based at Aylesbury Police Station, said: “Kenny Madgwick was caught with a street value of over GBP6,000 of drugs in his possession. “This sentence sends a message to people involved in the supply of drugs that drug-dealing will not be tolerated in Aylesbury and we will be robust in our response. “We will continue to pursue this criminal activity and look to protect vulnerable people members of the community.

“We will proactively and robustly target and prosecute offenders. “Our activity will be both visible and covert aimed at disrupting and pursuing offenders involved in the supply of drugs. A social media post showing footage of the dramatic high-speed arrest of the criminal was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Our officers assisted in November 2023 to stop Kenny Madgwick on the Norwich Southern Bypass[6].

“He was found in possession of 60.8g of cocaine and was arrested. He was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday for drugs offences.” The post has since gained over 120 likes and dozens of comments from users on social media who lauded the officers’ dramatic tactics.

One user said: “Great stop by our great officers. Pity they don’t do traffic cops with Norfolk Police. I’d be very proud of it, I’d do it myself with my GoPro if I was allowed.”

Another added: “Great work.” A third wrote: “Four years? Pathetic sentence.”

Another commented: “I thought this was a typo, but even the link says 60.8g, so is that a lot?

My only reference are those police/custom type programmes, which I watch on TV.

“When it comes to drug seizure, in these, they always talk about kilos, so 60g (grams I’m presuming) doesn’t seem that much.”
