Busy Edinburgh junction closed after lorry involved in crash with pedestrian

A major Edinburgh junction[1] has been closed after a pedestrian was involved in a crash with a lorry. The incident occurred at 7.10am on Wednesday, April 17, and has led to the closure of South Groathill Avenue at the junction with Queensferry Road South. Lothian Buses have diverted their services while Police Scotland[2] respond to the incident.

Those travelling to and from Craiglieth Retail Park are also expected to experience delays. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “South Groathill Avenue is closed at the junction with Queensferry Road South following a report of a crash involving a lorry and a pedestrian around 7.10am on Wednesday, 17 April, 2024. “Drivers are asked to avoid the area.”

Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters[5] for more headlines straight to your inbox Lothian Buses have warned users of their 38 service to expect a diversion due to road closures following the incident, on their website, they shared: “Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve South Groathill Avenue and Craigleith Retail Park and are instead operating on Queensferry Road and Craigleith Road until further notice.” Edinburgh Travel News also alerted motorists to avoid the area on X, posting: “Just getting word of an incident at Craigleith junction which may have an impact on traffic flows.
