Police arrest driver of ‘runaway’ Jaguar I-Pace electric car

The driver of an electric car who claimed that a technical glitch caused him to drive down a motorway at 100mph has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Nathan Owen, 31, was returning from his first day at a new job when his GBP80,000 electric Jaguar I-Pace SUV allegedly started malfunctioning.

He said that he felt he had “cheated death” as his car accelerated to 100mph on the busy M62 without brakes, according to MailOnline.

Officers in at least eight vehicles spent 35 minutes escorting the car down the busy motorway and closed off two of its four lanes so that they could bring the vehicle to a stop[1].

The incident caused delays of almost an hour just before rush hour.
