Driver arrested after being caught doing 30mph on motorway

A driver was stopped by police for travelling at 30mph on an almost empty M60. The incident took place near the Trafford Centre earlier today (13 March). Police[1] officers noticed a white Vauxhall Corsa travelling below the 70mph speed limit between junctions 10 and 11 of the M60, near the Barton Viaduct.

A photo shared by Greater Manchester Police shows the Corsa in the middle lane of the nearly deserted motorway at 3.24am. The picture displays the speed as captured by the police car dashboard, reading 30mph. The Corsa was chased by the police off the M60 at Eccles and stopped at Liverpool Road.

The driver was given a breath test and found to be over the legal alcohol limit for driving. He was arrested and tested again, still exceeding the limit. According to a GMP Traffic spokesperson who posted about it on X (formerly Twitter): "The Vauxhall Corsa was seen driving at 30mph between junction 10 and 11 of the M60.

Stopped on Liverpool Road, Eccles, he would provide a positive breath sample and was arrested.

In custody he's just provided a reading of 81.", reports the Manchester Evening News[2].
