Shocking footage shows stolen car plough into traffic before cabbie car-jacking
Shocking footage shows the moment a stolen car raced caused a huge smash – before a cabbie was robbed of his taxi at knifepoint as a suspect made their getaway.
Police only brought the incident to an end when they ‘boxed in’ the stolen can on the M6 and a 29-year-old man was arrested.
The incident initially unfolded 100 miles north of Stoke-on-Trent in Salford. Officers with Greater Manchester Police say cops had received reports of a vehicle ‘travelling at speed’.
It was then caught on camera causing a massive crash, leaving three other vehicles damaged. The injuries suffered by those involved were not life-threatening.

As one motorist left the scene, a taxi was then ‘taken violently’ on Regent Road where the cabbie was threatened at knifepoint at around 9.20pm on February 16. At around 11pm it was spotted on the M42.

Officers with Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) teamed up with West Midlands Police to stop the vehicle using TPAC (tactical pursuit and containment) to bring it to a stop on the M6 around Junction 2 near Coventry.
Subsequently a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Investigating officers have branded the knifepoint car-jacking a ‘terrifying ordeal’.
Chief Inspector Simon Ashcroft, of GMP’s Salford district, said: “This is understandably a terrifying ordeal for those involved but after a swift response by our dedicated local officers and the support of the wider force, we were not only able to manage the scene effectively, we also detained the suspect with assistance from colleagues in another force before any further harm could be caused.
“I hope this result shows that we will use all the resources available to us to detect and detain offenders quickly who are intent on causing unnecessary harm to innocent members of the public.”
