Woman ‘attacked with hammer’ in Hull street – before suspects spotted on M62

A 41-year-old woman was left with serious injuries today, after allegedly being attacked with a hammer.

Police were called to Sefton Street, off Hessle Road[1], at around 11.30am and found the woman with a serious head injury. The suspects in the attack are believed to have fled in a vehicle.

Officers spotted the vehicle travelling away from Hull on the M62 motorway[2] and stopped it a short time later. Two men, aged 26 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody while investigations continue.

A police scene guard remained in place in Sefton Street. Detective Inspector Helen Collier said: “We are currently in the early stages of our investigation, but I would like to reassure people that we do believe this to be an isolated incident.

“A scene guard is currently in place whilst officers conduct lines of enquiries to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Those living in the area can expect an increased policing presence throughout the day and into the evening whilst our investigation continues.

“I would encourage anyone with any information, or anyone with any concerns, to please come and speak to us. We would appeal for anyone who was the area around the time of the incident, or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist with our enquiries, to contact us..”

Anyone with information is asked to called the non-emergency number 101, quoting log 150 of January 8. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
