Police forced to crash into car going wrong way down M6 in Staffordshire

Police were forced to crash into a vehicle being driven the wrong way down the M6 toll[1] in Staffordshire. More than 50 concerned people alerted Staffordshire Police after the motorist was seen travelling against the flow of traffic.
In order to stop the car, police had to use 'tactical contact'. Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) said that this was to protect both the public and the driver.
Images of the damaged vehicle were shared on X, formerly Twitter, showing the damager. A statement was also issued about what happened during last night's incident (January 3).
It said: "Yesterday we responded to 50+ reports of a [car] travelling the wrong way on @M6tollRoad in @staffspolice. Tactical contact had to be used in order to end the [car] progress, protect the public and safeguard the driver."
They added that no one was hurt during the incident. The statement continued: "Thankfully no injuries caused. #oplightning C-Unit Doxey."
In a reply, one X user said: "Hope the crew were ok .... brave move to put yourself in danger." Another added: "Could have caused carnage."
It is not known at this stage whether any arrests have been made.
