M6 shut through Cheshire after lorry crash leaves shedload of veg

A shedload of vegetables has shut the M6 this morning. The vegetables spread over the carriageway after a lorry hit a bridge.

The collision has closed the southbound M6 from junction 17 for Sandbach to junction 16 at Stoke-on-Trent North. The alarm was raised at 5.35am.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix states: “The M6 southbound is closed due to a bridge being struck by a vehicle. It is between junctions 17 and 16.”

National Highways has also released a statement following the collision. It is not yet known when the carriageway will reopen.

It states: “A lorry has struck a bridge support and split its load across all lanes of the carriageway. A lengthy clear-up and recovery process will be taking place throughout the morning.”

North West Motorway Police Group are at the scene.
