M4 traffic live: Serious crash closes motorway between Wiltshire and Berkshire

A stretch of the M4 between two counties is closed on Monday morning (January 8) in both directions following a serious crash. It happened last night (Sunday) between junction 14 for Hungerford and junction 15 for Swindon East[1].

Traffic trapped in the closure in Wiltshire and Berkshire had to be turned round from the back of the queue in both directions. The road is likely to remain shut throughout the morning.

National Highways said: “At approximately 9:46pm last night we were advised of a serious incident resulting in the closure of the M4 in both directions between J15 and J14. Thames Valley Police are leading a multi agency response to the incident.

“National Highways resources are providing assistance with traffic management. Due to the serious nature of the incident the road is expected to remain closed through the morning to facilitate the ongoing police collision investigations.”

Last night Wiltshire police said: “Drivers please be aware that we have closed the M4 eastbound at junction 15 (Swindon) due to a serious collision in the Thames Valley neighbouring area.”
